Important Bible Passages on Evangelism

by Bruce F. Levi, ICARE Ministries

Why did Jesus came into the world; what was His primary mission?

Matthew 9:13; 18:11 Jesus Himself taught that He came to save lost sinners.

1 Timothy 1:15 Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Because Jesus came to save only lost sinners, it is vital that people clearly understand that they are lost sinners. What should Christians use to show people their true condition as lost sinners?

Romans 3:20 The law teaches people that they are sinners.

Romans 7:7-13 The law showed Paul that he was a guilty sinner in God’s eyes.

Galatians 3:24 says that the law is what brings people to Christ for salvation by faith.

1Timothy 1:8-11 Paul said that the law is meant to be used with unsaved people.

Where in the Bible does one find passages on “The Law” that are helpful in evangelism?

Exodus 20:3-17 lists the Ten Commandments.

Matthew 5 is Jesus’ sermon on the law, the “Sermon on the Mount” - especially vss. 22, 28, 48.

Luke 10:25-28 says we are to love God with all our being, and love our neighbors as ourselves.

Luke 10:25-28; 18:18-27; John 4:4-26  Jesus used the law to show people their sinful condition.

Why can unsaved people relate to or comprehend the law?

Romans 2:15 says “the law” is written on mankind’s heart – in his conscience.

Why is an appeal to the intellect, human wisdom and argumentation alone, ineffective with the unsaved?

1 Corinthians 1:18 Unsaved people regard the gospel as foolishness.

1 Corinthians 2:14 The unsaved cannot (incapable)discern the things of God.

To what areas of man’s nature must the appeal for salvation be made?

Luke 15:11-32 The prodigal son came to his senses [mind] when he realized his horrible condition. He realized his moral condition of guilt [conscience] that he had violated God’s law. He decided [will] to take action to repent (turn). Thus, a balanced approach.(1)

What attitude or state of mind must sinners have for salvation?

Acts 20:21 Sinners must repent (turn) toward God and have faith (trust) in the Lord Jesus Christ.

What name is given for the “good news” that is the message for salvation?

Acts 20:24 and Romans 1:16 The Gospel is the power of God for salvation.

Where is The Gospel (“good news”) clearly defined in the New Testament?

1 Corinthians 15:1-4  1) Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures.  2) Christ was buried.  3) Christ rose on the third day, according to the scriptures. God holds us accountable to His standard of perfection. Because all mankind is by nature dead in trespasses and sins and does not seek God, Jesus, God the Son, made a perfect and eternal payment for sins and freely gives salvation to those who turn to and trust in Him. Because people will not receive the good news, if they do not first understand their need for it, we must show them their need.

What is the role of the Christian in evangeliHomesm (telling the good news)?

Acts 8:1-4 shows that all Christians are to preach the gospel to the lost.

Romans 10:13-17 teaches that we are to be preachers of the gospel.

1 Corinthians 3:6 teaches us to plant and water, while God does the work of regeneration.

Ephesians 4:15; 2 Timothy 2:24-26 We are to speak the truth in love and meekness.
